Minnesota
Minnesota is located at a geographical cross-roads. In Minnesota, the
prairie meets the
forest, the pine forest meets the hardwood forest, and the
Great Lakes meet the
volcanic rock of an ancient rift system. As a result, Minnesota has many different natural ecosystems: prairies, pine forests, hardwood forests, oak savannas, marshlands, rocky hills, and more.
Minnesota's landscape has also been heavily impacted by the
glaciers that once covered the land. Many glacial features such as moraines, pot-hole lakes, and drumlins can be seen in Minnesota's landscape. Minnesota is blessed with an abundance of fresh water resources, including
over 12,000 lakes and many rivers. The Mississippi river has its source at Lake
Itasca in Minnesota.
